The Chandigarh Administration has a daunting task: provide vocational education to 50,000 youngsters by 2025-26.

The Central Government has set a goal for the UT of offering vocational education to over 50,000 pupils in government institutions in the city, beginning from upper elementary levels through 2025–26.
The Ministry of Education established the aim as part of the five-year Perspective Plan for Samagra Shiksha, which includes year-by-year result targets.

According to the plan, about 20,000 students would finish vocational courses and another 25,000 students would enroll in vocational courses from Class IX to XII. Furthermore, 25,000 additional upper primary kids will be exposed to vocational education.

The goal of incorporating vocational education into the school curriculum is to develop educated and employable youngsters. Vocational courses are offered alongside academic topics from Class IX to XII as part of the “vocationalisation” of school education. The industry is more involved in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of vocational skills under this component.
An allocation of Rs 15.9 lakh has been allocated for 106 government schools in Chandigarh to carry out activities connected to vocational education for upper primary pupils, such as visits to neighboring industries or units, interactive sessions or lectures, and workshops by local artists and craftsmen on local skills and crafts.

A budget of Rs 3 lakh has been set up for holding job fairs in schools, which would present kids with a variety of vocational and professional prospects. The implementation of vocational education in five schools—the GMSSS, Sector 23, the GSSS, Behlana, the GMHS, Sector 36, the GMHS, Sector 41-D, and the GMHS, Sector 49—was anticipated to cost Rs 23.25 lakh.

Chandigarh has also been instructed to maintain a 100% Net Enrollment Rate and Transition Rate. By the conclusion of the five-year period, the dropout rate will have decreased to 0%. In Chandigarh, the dropout rate has decreased from the previous year. According to UDISE 2020-21 statistics, the UT presently has a 0% dropout rate at the elementary and secondary levels and a 4.45% dropout rate at the senior secondary level.
